English Setter
English Setter Personality
Originally from England where the Setter was used to assist with falconry, he has become known as a great companion dog and show dog
Beautiful, sweet-natured, affectionate, lively and a bit goofy
Wonderfully social and completely devoted to his family, the Setter can suffer separation anxiety if left alone too long
English Setter Bark
The sometimes protective Setter has a throaty bark that he will likely use more for attention than to prevent intruders
English Setter Training
Each Setter varies in terms of trainability but for the most part they will respond well to reward-based training with consistency and patience
Harsh training methods will not work well with this sweet-natured breed
English Setter Exercise
English Setters were made to run and the more running they do the better; teaching a young Setter the recall command (“Come!”) is vital as when they run free they like to keep going
On-leash walks as well as dog-park time and free run keeps the energetic Setter both mentally and physically stimulated
English Setter Coat
Coats are white with either orange, black, lemon or tri-colored marble markings; puppies are born white and slowly build up color over the first week
Daily brushing prevents tangles and eliminates dead hair while removing grass, mud and seeds from daily walks
English Setter Care
English Setters require daily brushing, above average daily exercise and plenty of attention and affection from their owner
English Setter Health
Extremely sensitive skin that is prone to skin allergies
Hip dysplasia and hypothyroidism can occur
Slight percentage of puppies are born deaf
