Mario Lopez’s Hunt for the Pawfect Pup
Mario Lopez has graced the television screen with his sweet dimples for many years now. He’s gone from hunky high school hearthrob t
o the best eye candy ever on TV programs like “America’s Best Dance Crew” and “Extra.” But every animal lover remembers him best for his time hosting Animal Planet’s “Pet Star!” Even though Lopez spent many days meeting countless extraordinary pups on this show, he’s never taken up the responsibilty of adopting and bringing home his very own baby pooch.
All of that changed on September 11, when ”Extra” announced a five-month long campaign to help the show’s host choose his very first dog. Puppies and pup owners are swooning with joy over the TV personality’s decision to adopt a new dog, and are scrambling to the show’s website to weigh in on the breed Lopez should choose.
Here at i Love Dogs, we’re excited to see Lopez become a responsible role model to would-be dog owners. Where many make rash impulse buys without proper research prior to purchasing a pet, Lopez has committed to spending a full five months learning about different breeds, consulting with professionals and other dog owners about what to expect, and exploring all of his options including adopting from shelter and rescue organizations.
In an interview with Small Screen News, Lopez said, “I’ve been thinking about adopting a dog for many years now. Even though I have a very busy schedule I feel now is definitely the right time to finally get a dog.” Lisa Gregorisch-Dempsey, the show’s executive producer, added that they hope the campaign will help find homes for hundreds of dogs in need of families.
On the first segment of the series, “Extra” brought in an AKC representative to help Lopez take a compatibility match to determine the best dog breed for him. French Bulldog afficionados will be excited
to hear that the Frenchie topped the list at number one. The other dogs recommended for the dashing Lopez were the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Smooth Fox Terrier, Japanese Chin, and the Wire Fox Terrier.
The TV host hasn’t shown any particular leanings towards any one breed, but fans are voting online and many are pushing for the Staffordshire Bull Terrier to be Lopez’s new best friend. The website also prompts fans to submit photos of breeds they feel are Lopez’s doggie look-a-like, noting that most dogs look like their owners.
Twitter and Facebook are a-buzz with Lopez’s potential new family addition and i Love Dogs is excited to hear he’s choosing a dog as a best friend for life.

Likebecause of so much inbreeding, often 'mutts' are smarter.. but if you pick a breed, all breeds have a 'rescue' group that take in pure breds that have been abandon or whose owners can no longer care for them .. i rescued a malamute that only lived 18 months.. everyone that met him fell in love with him.. we believe his long neglect shortened his life.. i fostered 2 more until they found homes.. if you are unsure of a breed or its personality, you may want to be a foster parent.. like a test drive.. just understand some are emotionally damaged and take awhile to trust but when they do, the love is more than you can imagine..
