Mario Lopez Brings Home Julio!

The tall, dark and handsome Mario Lopez has settled down with the love of his life – short, chunky, pointy-eared and clumsy Julio Cesar Chavez Lopez.

No, it’s not the Julio Cesar Chavez known for blows and knockouts; this little tub of chub is four-legged, smushed faced and the most perfect ball of love for the popular Lopez, who hosts “EXTRA” and MTV’s “America’s Best Dance Crew.” He’s now the proud owner of a French Bulldog who he’s named Julio Cesar Chavez after the famous ex-boxer.

“I named him Julio Cesar Chavez after the great fighter, not to be confused with the great farmer. I like to name all of my dogs after ex-boxers,” Lopez told EXTRA TV on a segment earlier this week.

PEOPLEPets.com broke the news on March 3, revealing the first photo of Lopez holding his new bundle of joy. The star first announced that he’d be launching a search for a new puppy back in September. The journey towards locating the perfect pooch for Lopez would last five months, and it was planned that he’d go on to announce his new dog at the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show in February, reported Examiner.com. Lopez was scheduled to host the event, but had to drop out at the last minute.

Fortunately for fans, Lopez still had a plan to bring a new pup home. When Lopez first started his search, the American Kennel Club (AKC) had him take a compatibility test to determine which breed fit him best. The top dog? The French Bulldog, followed by the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Smooth Fox Terrier, Japanese Chin, and the Wire Fox Terrier. Though Lopez went through a 5-month trek researching breeds and learning about all things dog from celebrities and trainers, he came around full circle to the exact breed the test reported fit him best from the beginning – the Frenchie.

Of course it didn’t hurt that Oprah Winfrey, the talk show host legend and famous dog mom herself, suggested to Lopez that he get a Frenchie, as PEOPLEPets.com reported. So of course, he knew that was the clincher.

“I am so excited to have [him] in my life,” Lopez told PEOPLEPets.com in a statement. “After months on the hunt, I’ve realized that a French Bulldog is the right dog for me.”

The 36-year-old actor was so excited about his new pooch that he even sent a message out to his devoted Twitter followers. “My puppy Julio Cesar Chavez Lopez finally made his debut on Extra yesterday,” he wrote.

Lopez’s transition from television hunk to dog dad has been incredibly smooth. In a video on his show’s website, you can see Lopez kissing and cuddling his new Frenchie Julio as if it were second nature. No one should be surprised to soon see Julio pampered on the same level as Paris Hilton’s Tinkerbell or Perez Hilton’s Teddy.

“I’ve been blessed with the most perfect dog,” Lopez said. “I embrace the responsibility of having my dog. It’s a lot, it’s like having a baby that doesn’t grow up. But like a baby it’s a lot of love.”

i Love Dogs has no doubt that this sweetheart will make a good dog dad!

The Dog Park

The show brought you so many cute puppies from the shelter, you could have set a example, even Oprah changed her ways. Shame on you.

Thanks for being responsible for mass breeding of French Bulldogs in puppy mills. All you had to was rescue your dog because you are a public figure but instead you chose to be heartless & selfish, causing so many adoptable dogs in our shelters to be killed. You of all people should know better!
