Hello! I’m curious to know what weight is good for my 3-year-old American Cocker Spaniel. Thanks!
Most Cocker Spaniels should weigh between 20 to 30 pounds depending on the size. However, the correct weight for your dog is not determined so much by what the scale says but by what the dog looks like, which is called a body condition score. Some dogs are bigger or smaller than the breed standard and some dogs are mixes with other breeds so it becomes difficult to answer what specific weight is the correct one in these cases.
In general, there should be a pronounced waist or hourglass figure when the dog is viewed from the top and there should be an upward tuck of the abdomen when the dog is viewed from the side. You should easily be able to feel the ribs but if you can actually see the ribs, they are too thin. If you keep the body condition in these limits it doesn’t matter what the scale says.
