Iams Co. Expands Recall to Include Dog Formulas

Cincinnati-based Iams Co. has expanded its recent feline dry food recall to include more diets, including varieties for dogs. The foods were recalled due to possible Salmonella contamination. The original recall covered Iams Veterinary Feline Renal 5.5 Ibs with a Lot Code of 01384174B4 and a UPC Code of 0 19014 21405 1.

The recall now covers all sizes and varieties of Iams Veterinary Dry Formulas, Eukanuba Naturally Wild, Eukanuka Pure, and Eukanuba Custom Care Sensitive Skin.

According to Iams’ parent company, Proctor & Gamble, the dry formulas were voluntarily recalled as a precautionary measure because the products are made in the same facility. The company advises consumers to discard these specific foods if they have already been purchased.

Signs of Salmonella in pets can include vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, fever, refusal to eat, drooling or panting and dehydration.

Proctor & Gamble further warns that people can also become infected with Salmonella while handling the product. “Healthy people infected with Salmonella should monitor themselves for some or all of the following symptoms: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever,” states the press release. “Rarely, Salmonella can result in more serious ailments including arterial infections, endocarditis, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation and urinary tract symptoms. Consumers exhibiting these signs after having contact with this product should contact their healthcare providers.”

Consumers seeking further information, a refund or product replacement are encouraged to call Proctor & Gamble at 877-340-8823.
