Mojitos & Mutts 2 Collects Money and Products for LA/SPCA!

Thanks to everyone who came out to support our second Mojitos & Mutts event! We met a lot of new faces at Hotel Maya in Long Beach and we are absolutely thrilled with the turnout.

In keeping with the Mojitos & Mutts tradition, dogs and their parents had a cause in mind when coming together for mixing and mingling. Although the goal is usually to keep fundraising efforts local, we’ve been so moved by what animals, both in the wild and companion pets, have had to endure because of the oil spill in the Gulf Coast, that we decided this is every community’s problem.

We took action by collecting product and monetary donations, 100 percent of which will go directly to the Gulf Coast Companion Animal Relief Program. According to the Louisiana SPCA (LA/SPCA), its shelter has seen a considerable spike in population because pet parents are losing their jobs (mostly in the fishing industry) and they’re being forced to give up their beloved four-legged companions.

The LA/SPCA started the Gulf Coast Companion Animal Relief Program as a way to provide short-term financial relief to families with companion animals to prevent further shelter drop-offs.

We gave the second Mojitos & Mutts a sub-theme of “L.A. for LA” and thanks to the generosity of Southern California dog lovers, we collected $90 for the program, via donations and a raffle. We also collected several products that will go to the animals waiting for new forever homes, such as dog beds, treats, and lots of cool toys, including a KONG. The KONG Company has graciously offered to match it, just like they matched the toys at our KONG drive for the first Mojitos & Mutts.

We’d also like to thank the support of Pup-Peroni, whose yummy treats were gobbled up by oh so grateful pooches in attendance; FIDO Friendly magazine, who provided reading material for our attendee gift bags; and Worldwise, whose adorable plush dog toys were raffled off to raise money for a great cause! Without the support of our sponsors, we couldn’t have made the evening as successful as it was—thank you!

Our next Mojitos & Mutts will take place on August 25. Check back soon for details on what is sure to be another memorable evening!
