Operation Baghdad Pups
i Love Dogs is proud to sponsor one of the largest efforts to reunite dogs from war-torn Iraq with the soldiers they befriended, consoled and protected in the midst of battle. Operation Baghdad Pups, a program under SPCA International (SPCAi), was established in 2007 when a soldier sent a plea to the organization asking them to save Charlie, a dog he had befriended in Iraq and who he desperately wanted to bring home to the United States.
Many of the dogs rescued by Operation Baghdad Pups are homeless strays that come to the soldiers for food, companionship and shelter. Yet, as any dog lover would understand, in the midst of battle, these dogs bring an enormous gift to soldiers – friendship, love and comfort.
i Love Dogs Rescue Network
During Adopt-A-Dog Month in October 2009, we created the i Love Dogs Rescue Network and featured an adoptable dog every day from the Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation or Karma Rescue. Since then, 20 of our featured adoptable dogs have found forever homes, and we couldn’t be happier.
We are continuing these efforts by featuring an adoptable dog from shelters and rescues nationwide every Friday. Our readers and social media followers are encouraged to spread the word about these homeless animals. We reward adopters with a “pooch starter kit” filled with i Love Dog premium vitamins and other dog treats.
Mojitos & Mutts Fundraising Events
Mojitos & Mutts was a series of five fun parties i Love Dogs co-hosted with Hotel Maya in Long Beach, Calif., in 2010 that brought dog lovers together and raised money, food and toy donations for animals in need. The series began with a benefit for Long Beach Animal Care Services and wrapped up with a fundraiser for spcaLA.
Hotel Maya TweetUp/MeetUp spcaLA Benefit
In March 2010, i Love Dogs hosted a TweetUp/MeetUp (a gathering of Twitter and Facebook aficionados and their furry friends) at the Hotel Maya.
Hoping to take advantage of the gathering of so many dog lovers, we discussed what we could do to give back with this event. Having heard so much about spcaLA’s struggle to gather enough food to feed the homeless animals at its shelters, we decided to ask attendees to bring a bag of dog food to donate to the organization.
Slowly the momentum started to build and before we knew it, two other companies had committed to match our donation – Dogswell and the Animal Care Center of Huntington Beach. Donations for a silent auction also started rolling in. With the help of our TweetUp/MeetUp attendees and donation matches, i Love Dogs was able to collect 1,170 pounds of dog food and nearly $500 in donations via our silent auction.
Summer of Giving
During 2009′s Summer of Giving, i Love Dogs donated $2 million worth of our premium vitamins and supplements to non-profit animal rescues in need. Our goal was to ensure that every dog, whether homeless or not, would have the opportunity to live a healthy and happy life. Our vitamins helped support each rescue dog’s optimal health, while reducing each dog’s susceptibility to illnesses that would normally require expensive veterinary treatments. The vitamins and supplements helped these pooches stay healthy while they waited for their forever homes.
Our donations reached several rescues, including Karma Rescue; Linda Blair Worldheart Foundation; Animals Rule; Cage Free K-9 Rescue; Boxer Rescue LA; Downtown Dog Rescue; Noah’s Bark; Southern California Labrador Retriever Rescue; Boxer OC Animal Rescue; Border Collies In Need; Marley’s Pit Stop; Rover Rescue; Best Friends Animal Society and Last Chance for Animals.
The announcement of our donation brought much attention to these rescues and also helped to increase awareness about the health needs of homeless dogs.
Be the Change Campaign
i Love Dogs continued to stay dedicated to our charity work after attending the BlogPaws conference in April 2010. From this gathering began the “Be the Change” campaign that we were happy to support by making a donation to Ohio-based animal rescue Pets Without Parents. When it comes to helping animals in need, there’s nothing we won’t do to “be the change we want to see in the world.”
Raising Awareness about Canine and Human Arthritis
In 2010 i Love Dogs hosted a surf dog photo contest on our good pawl Surf Dog Ricochet’s Facebook page. Ricochet and her dog mom Judy Fridono are committed to raising funds for human and canine arthritis. This is an issue very close to our hearts, so we also provided a supply of our Glucosamine and Chondroitin supplement (which is excellent for dogs suffering from arthritis) as part of the grand prize. We were honored to be able to help Ricochet raise awareness – and funds – for such an important cause.
