The ASPCA statistics are heartbreaking: From 5 to 7 million pets enter U.S. animal shelters each year, and of those, 3 to 4 million are euthanized.

i Love Dogs, Inc. has created the i Love Dogs Rescue Network to try to help reduce these numbers.

The network was first introduced during Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month in October 2009. Each day that month, we posted a profile of a dog from Karma Rescue or the Linda Blair WorldHeart Foundation that needed a furever home.

During October 2010, we featured homeless dogs from shelters and rescues across the U.S. (and one in Canada).

Going forward, we’re going to observe Adopt-a-Shelter-Dog Month every month of the year. Each Friday we’ll post the story of a dog in a shelter or rescue, and ask members of the i Love Dogs Rescue Network to help the pooch find a home.

Want to join the i Love Dogs Rescue Network? It’s easy – all you need to do is help us get the word out about our featured dogs. Post links to our stories on Twitter and Facebook, email links to your friends and family – whatever it takes!

If you or someone in your social network becomes a hero by adopting one of our featured dogs, in addition to getting a new best friend for life,  i Love Dogs will send the new dog dad and/or mom a brand new pooch starter kit, including toys, vitamin samples and other goodies!
