Canadians Rescue 52 L.A. Death-Row Dogs
Last week, a group of rescuers from Canada took it upon themselves to save 52 dogs that were about to be euthanized at several animal shelters around Los Angeles.
According to the Vancouver Sun, Steve McTiernan of Top Dog Kennels in Kelowna, British Columbia, sprang into action when he heard the news. McTiernan, along with a pack of other dedicated dog lovers, drove a large van down to the U.S. and picked up the 52 dogs, including Chihuahuas, Rottweilers and Poodles.
“They would have been euthanized that morning,” McTiernan said.
The dogs were put into foster homes in British Columbia, and the rescuers are hopeful that many of them will be adopted.
This was the fourth rescue mission McTiernan was involved with last year. Since this latest mission was rather sudden, he says many of the dogs still need furever homes. People interested in adopting one of the dogs should call Top Dog Kennels at 250-491-1223 or email topdogkennels@shaw.ca.
