Nikki Moustaki Hits Day 60 of Her Nitro’s Law Campaign
Nikki Moustaki has been busy garnering attention and publicity ever since she first began her campaign to reinstate Nitro’s Law on February 1.
Moustaki, an animal advocate, dog trainer, author and TV personality, has been featured on CNN, “The Howard Stern Show,” and several other pet radio shows to discuss the anti-animal cruelty bill.
Nitro’s Law (House Bill 108) was reintroduced in the Ohio House of Representatives 22 days after Moustaki began her campaign.
Moustaki has vowed to continue to spread the word about Nitro’s Law by posting videos of herself eating dog food and encouraging others to join her until the bill is passed.
As she hits Day 60 of her campaign, Moustaki’s YouTube videos have featured her chowing down on dog food naked; bundled up like an Eskimo; acting out a Charlie Sheen parody; romping on the beach in her bikini; and even making a doggie dinner for our General Manager, Martha Smith.
Moustaki explained her motivation to keep eating dog food for Nitro’s Law in a recent press release.
“Sometimes change just needs a little push, and sometimes it needs a shove. In this case, I believe that positive change needs a fork. I’m willing to embarrass myself a little for the sake of animal welfare,” she said. “Eating dog food every day is just a small gesture in the face of a huge issue.”
According to the press release, supporters of Moustaki’s campaign have joined her from several states across the U.S., including Arizona; Tennessee; New York; California; New Jersey; Nebraska; Maryland; and Nevada. A K-9 handler serving in Afghanistan has joined the campaign, as well as five passionate women in Ohio who have tattooed paw prints and Nitro’s name onto their arms as a permanent sign of support.

Moustaki has also received thousands of emails from supporters in the U.S. and from around the world.
“I consider it a privilege to be doing this and I’m willing to go the distance,” said Moustaki. “I love this country and I believe that we are better than our current laws. Let’s make sure that every state holds animal welfare to a higher standard.”
On Wednesday, Ohio’s Criminal Justice Committee met for the second of three meetings that will determine if Nitro’s Law will be allowed a vote in the House of Representatives. If it’s passed, Nitro’s Law will move to the Senate, according to the press release.
“Animal cruelty is not a partisan issue, and I’m hoping that the politicians can put aside their party loyalties and do what’s right for the animals,” Moustaki said. “The dog food eating campaign is funny, but the reality of animal abuse is not funny – it’s sad and real, and if Nitro’s Law can save even one animal, all of this will have been worth it.”
