Danke schön to all of you who entered your beautiful dog pictures in our i Love German Shepherds photo contest.
It wasn’t easy for our contest judge, German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County (GSROC) Director Maria Dales, to make her final decisions. “Boy, this really was very tough,” she said. “They all have so much character.”
After careful consideration of all the wunderbar photos, Dales selected a first- and second-place winner.
- 1st Place: Titan
“This photo was a runaway winner,” Dale said. “It is not only artistic and well balanced, it conveys a sense of unabashed joy. Titan reminds us all to relax and enjoy life’s simple pleasures, like running in the sprinklers on a beautiful sunny day. I love how he’s leaning into the spray with the famous shepherd ‘flat face’ of contentment!”
Titan, a purebred sable, “absolutely loves the water – we can’t keep him out of it,” write his dog parents, Richard and Annette Knipfing. “From the first day we saw him – a 10-week-old puppy, sitting in his water dish. He has been trouble with a capital ‘T’ his entire life, but we wouldn’t trade him for the world!”
- 2nd Place: Cinnamon
“The black-and-white composition is very striking and conveys a lot of character,” Dales said. “I love how this clever girl has made herself a pillow out of the throw rug – that’s talent!”
“Cinnamon was a blessing in disguise for our family,” writes her dog mom, Gina Gervais. Her daughter was extremely afraid of dogs, while her son had been asking for a dog.
“We thought it may be a good idea to get a puppy so it could grow with our daughter and help her with her fears,” Gervais writes. “We went to a pet adoption event and my daughter was afraid, so she wandered off to the side of the building. Lo and behold, this little puppy found her, jumped in her lap and licked her face. It was a love connection.” Three years later, the pair is inseparable. Gina’s daughter snapped this photo.
“Cinnamon’s eyes convey how safe and content she feels in her forever home,” Dales noted.
- Honorable Mention: Sky
Sky’s photo was submitted by his dog aunt, Janine Brink, who writes that he’s “a real mama’s boy and gets exactly what he wants. He is like a child to my sister, and they love him very much.”
Titan and Cinnamon will each receive i Love Dogs Reishi with Green Tea plus a coupon good for a 50-percent discount on their pet parents’ next purchase of i Love Dogs vitamins and supplements. Sky will receive an i Love Dogs bag filled with goodies.
“German Shepherd Rescue of Orange County is an all-volunteer, 501c3 organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and re-homing shepherds that have fallen on hard times,” Dales said. “Approximately 50 percent of our dogs come directly from owners who can no longer care for them, with the other 50 percent rescued from public shelters. We regard ourselves as ambassadors for the dogs that come into our safety net, and our focus is on finding quality homes for our orphans. Above all, we believe that making the right match between adopter and canine is essential to a successful and permanent placement.”
