Michael Vick Receives Subway Sportsman of the Year BET Award
Michael Vick, who was convicted for dog fighting in 2007 – and who killed losing dogs by hanging, drowning or slamming them against the ground – received the Subway Sportsman of the Year Award at Sunday night’s BET Awards.
“After doing an 18-month bid for dog-fighting, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick returned to capture the league’s Comeback Player of the Year Award,” according to a blurb on the BET website.
Vick did not attend the awards ceremony.
Although Subway was a sponsor of “The Michael Vick Project,” a reality show that aired last year on BET, Dogster is reporting today that a customer service representative said BET, not Subway, selects the winners of the sports awards.
The rep said Subway “will most likely not sponsor this award again because there have been so many calls about people’s outrage about Michael Vick’s being associated with Subway.”
If you don’t think Vick deserves the Sportsman of the Year Award, make your voice heard. Call BET at 202-608-2000, submit a comment on its website or write to BET Networks, 1235 W Street, NE, Washington, DC 20018-1211.
