Young-at-Heart Mikie Needs a Furever Home!

A super-smart Poodle named Mikie is looking for a furever home after his pet parent of 12 years decided to send him to the pound.

Mikie is 12 years old and has a lot of love to offer. When the good people at A Dog’s Life Rescue in Los Angeles found out that Mikie’s days were numbered at the pound, they immediately saved this sweet pooch’s life.

Despite his age, everyone at the rescue and who meets him thinks Mikie is a puppy because he’s so young at heart. Mikie needs and deserves a home – he’s ready for that person to whom he can devote himself.

Mikie loves to go on walks, but at home, he is more than willing to turn into a couch potato with you.

The rescue discovered that Mikie has what is called a liver shunt – an abnormal blood vessel that blocks blood flow to the liver. He’s probably had it since birth, but the symptoms started showing now that he’s older. Since diagnosing the liver shunt and putting him on a proper diet and medication, Mikie has been doing well. The vet says Mikie can live years with the liver shunt, but his diet and medication will have to be maintained.

Every Monday, i Love Dogs spotlights a homeless dog as part of our i Love Dogs Rescue Network effort to find furever homes for these pooches.

I chose Mikie because of his ability to love, despite the way in which his former pet parent treated him. Poodles are also i Love Dogs’ featured breed spotlight for this month. November also happens to be Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month. So why not celebrate by giving this sweet Poodle a second chance?
