i Love Dogs was all smiles in February, especially since our featured pooch part was dog teeth. We thank all of you pet parents who entered pictures in our i Love Dog Teeth photo contest.
As usual with our photo contents, every entry was truly a winner, so having to select their top favorites wasn’t easy task for our judging panel.
As contest judge Greg Kleva noted, “I’m a sucker for a good snaggle-tooth grin, or a dog with ‘summer teeth’ (sum’r here, sum’r there) … I was really impressed with so many sets of beautiful, white chompers. All of their owners should be recognized for taking such great concern for their dogs’ dental care!”
Without further pawdo, here are the toothsome winners!
First Place: Dakota
“Dakota oozes personality (or at least photogenic-ality) with his crooked smile,” said Nikki Moustaki.
“If Gavin DeGraw was a dog, this is what he would look like. I love that he is proud of his pearly whites enough to show them off like this … His ‘better to eat you with’ swagger isn’t lost on anyone who views this photo.”
The 4-year-old Alaskan Malamute was on a shelter’s death row, just hours from being euthanized, when he was rescued by his dog mom, Heather.
“We don’t know much about him or his previous life, but we know he is a very loving dog,” she said. “He gives kisses with his teeth when he gets excited, which is most of the time. I was trying to get a nice close-up of him but he decided to shake his head as I snapped the photo!”
“I love his crooked smile and teeth kisses,” said contest judge Dr. Patrick Mahaney.
Kleva added, “I’m not sure if I’m voting for Dakota because of his great teeth or because I love his Billy Idol impression … or is that Elvis? Either way, this Alaskan Malamute’s great snarly grin is a winner for me.”
Second Place (Tie): Louie
Louie is a 2-year-old Pug who loves to have his teeth brushed by his dog mom, Lillian, and loves chewing on the toothbrush even more.
“He is smiling with his whole mouth: lips, teeth and all,” said Mahaney of his choice for second place. “Love it!”
Second Place (Tie): Ruby
One of the first things Ruby’s dog mom, Rosemary, noticed after she adopted the Golden Retriever was the whiteness of her teeth.
“Her pearly whites have encouraged us to try brushing her teeth so they can always remain pearly white,” Rosemary said. “It’s a challenge at times, because she would rather chew the brush than let us brush her teeth.”
Said Kleva of his pick for second place, “How can you deny the beauty of Ruby’s pearly whites? I was almost blinded when I saw this picture. This is a teeth contest and those are some gorgeous teeth!”
Second Place (Tie): Wrigley
Wrigley, a 2-year-old Boxer mix, was adopted from a shelter a year and a half ago. “She is beyond goofy and, as you can see, her teeth match her personality!” said her dog mom, Kayla.
“Wrigley is part goofball, part blueblood, which is easy to see from her prominent jaw placement,” said Moustaki of her second-place choice. “If she was a person, she’d be Mrs. ‘Lovey’ Howell from ‘Gilligan’s Island.’ She looks caught in the paparazzi’s lens in this photo, and it’s no wonder – she’s clearly a superstar! It’s obvious that she decided against braces in her youth, but her crooked grin just lends to her star quality.”
Honorable Mention: Bailey
Based on your “Likes” in our i Love Dog Ears Facebook photo album, our honorable-mention prize winner is Bailey!
This year-old Boxer was adopted from a family that could no longer care for her.
“She is a wonderful and hilarious addition to our family and keeps us laughing with her ever-ready quirky smiles,” said her dog mom, Missy. “Bailey has a party-girl attitude and is always up for some tug-of-war. She is the sweetest girl and loves to cuddle up with her mom and dad at the end of the day.”
Congratulations to our winners! Dakota, Louie, Ruby and Wrigley will each receive i Love Dogs Green Tea supplements to help keep their prize-winning teeth healthy, plus a coupon good for a 50-percent discount on their pet parents’ next purchase of i Love Dogs vitamins and supplements.
As the fan favorite, Bailey will receive an i Love Dogs bag filled with pawsome goodies.
