Puppy Survives 30-Foot Fall From Hawk’s Clutches

Saint Bernard puppyElaine Bouschard got one heck of a Mother’s Day gift on Sunday: A puppy fell out of the sky and landed in her yard.

The puppy had been dropped from the talons of a hawk that lives on Bouschard’s property in Los Banos, Calif. Her grandson, 7-year-old Taylor Callaway, found him on the ground.

“All of a sudden I saw this little puppy laying there, he was almost dead,” Bouschard told KSBW. “There’s three little clutch marks right here, and when he hit the ground, he bounced.”

She named the lucky little guy “TJ Heavenly” after her grandson and the place the boy thinks the pup came from.

Besides the fact that tiny TJ was greasy (Bouschard thinks he may have been snatched from a junkyard), she can understand how the hawk lost his grip. “He is so wiggly and his nose, he’s a bulldozer. I could see him wiggling right out of the talons,” she said.

The pet mom to dogs, horses, chickens – and hawks – has formally adopted the pup. “My thought is that when God drops a puppy from the sky, you keep it,” she said. “I actually think God just dropped me a baby to have for Mother’s Day!”

Hopefully TJ Heavenly’s good fortune will continue and Bouschard will protect him from the hawks. A puppy belonging to model Shanna Moakler was not so fortunate.

TJ, who appears to be a Saint Bernard mix, just opened his eyes for the first time on Tuesday, indicating he’s probably only about 2 weeks old. Bouschard said he’s been treated by a vet for dehydration and got his vaccinations, and she is giving him medicine and plenty of food.

“How cool is this? Pennies from heaven, puppies from heaven,” she told KSBW.
