Rickie Roo to Compete in the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge
This year marks the 15th anniversary of the Purina Pro Plan Incredible Dog Challenge. This event has become a national sensation, attracting world-class canine athletes to show off their amazing skills in Olympic-style competitions during a multi-city tour, which ends with the nationally televised championships.
We are proud to announce that Rickie Roo, dog ambassador to i Love Dogs, will be competing in the Incredible Dog Challenge when it comes to San Diego on June 9 in the exciting Head-to-Head Weave Poles event.
“She has to leave the start line, weave through 30 poles, go through a tunnel and then weave the 30 poles again from the other direction. It’s like a drag race because two dogs are running side-by-side. The fastest dog wins,” said i Love Dogs Ambassador Deborah Davidson Harpur, dog mom to Rickie Roo.
Rickie Roo was built for speed and athleticism. This 4-year-old Rat Terrier has been competing in agility since she was 1 ½ years old. She has multiple agility titles and one conformation championship. For this canine athlete, competing is a way of life.
Harpur said, “Rickie Roo is a fast, consistent dog. She loves to work and looks great doing it. That’s our thing – agility.”
Rickie Roo will be going up against some of the most talented dogs from around the country, each one vying for a spot in the national finals later this year. But neither Rickie Roo nor Harpur are worried.
“She trains as she always does, but we did make a set of 30 weave poles spaced at 24 inches apart to practice with,” said Harpur. “We have a hard pack/sand surface and the event will be on grass, so things will change up a bit, but Roo likes to weave and I think she’ll do fine. We will do our best and be happy for whomever wins – happiest if it’s us – but happy for our friends if it’s one of them.”
Some of the other events include dog diving, freestyle flying disc, Jack Russell hurdle racing, speed and catch and agility.
Rickie Roo and Harpur hope to be invited back to next year to compete in agility, but in the meantime, they are excited to be going and look forward to having fun with their friends.
“She hopes to hear, ‘WHOO HOO, RICKIE ROO!’ and the like at the event. She’s a very social girl and loves it when the crowd cheers her on,” Harpur said.
