Global Pet Foods Sponsors 2012 Modern Pentathlon Team

The 2012 Olympics have begun and we are excited to announce that our pawls at Global Pet Foods are sponsoring Canada’s Modern Pentathlon team in the 2012 London Games.

The Modern Pentathlon features five sports: fencing, swimming, equestrian, shooting and running, which are combined into four events.

The events represent the diverse attributes of a Napoleonic officer, including fitness (running and swimming), control and concentration (shooting), agility and speed (fencing) and determination, adaptability and courage (riding and jumping an unfamiliar horse).

“We’d like to congratulate pentathletes Donna Vakalis and Melanie McCann for qualifying for the Canadian team. We are thrilled we can lend our support to two of Canada’s top athletes,” said Jim Walker, president of Global Pet Foods.

“As Canada’s healthy choice for pets we are always looking for unique ways to encourage and inspire pet parents to become more active. Vakalis and McCann are not only super athletes, but also super pet parents who are dedicated to including their pets in their active lifestyle.”

The women’s Modern Pentathlon will be held on Aug. 12. Only 36 men and 36 women qualify for the Pentathlon championship.
