Rescued Dog Reciprocates by Saving Dying Baby
A dog named Duke was lucky to have his life saved about six years ago when the Brousseau family of Portland, Conn., adopted him from a shelter.
Sunday night, Duke returned the favor by alerting his pet parents that their infant daughter was in trouble.
Duke, who appears to be partly a Shepherd-Pit Bull mix, jumped on their bed and shook so violently that he awoke them.
“If Duke hadn’t been so scared, we would have just gone to sleep,” Jenna Brousseau, his dog mom, told WFSB News. “He is insanely obedient, so this is extremely bizarre.”
Concerned about what could be bothering him, she and her husband went to their daughter’s bedroom. Nine-week-old Harper wasn’t breathing.
“My husband called 911 and the ambulance came here, and it was because of our Dukey dog, who alerted us,” Brousseau told WFSB News. The paramedics were able to revive Harper.
October happens to be Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Brousseau said she wanted to share this story to inspire others to rescue homeless pets.
“He’s the perfect dog,” she told WFSB News. “I tell him all the time, ‘You were born in mommy’s heart,’ just because he was so meant to be ours.”
